Further Education:

Spring Arbors University > Bachelor’s degree in Family Life Education

Employment:

Executive Director, Read for Literacy, Inc.

About me:

I grew up on the East side, and most of my family still lives there. My husband and I have four children and eight amazing grandchildren.

Who influenced me the most in school:

Ms. Monto and Mr. Stephens
Ms. Monto in fourth and fifth grade. She had a book section in her classroom, and we had to log how much we read in a journal. Reading became a great escape for me, and I have never forgotten the importance of a good book.
Mr. Stephens, my band director in high school. He was tough on me and made me try new things, things I didn’t think I could do. In the end, I learned that if you don’t try, you’ll never know.

Favorite subjects in school:

English, music

Least favorite subject in school:

Chemistry
Hobbies/Activities:
Reading, spending time with my grandchildren and kick-boxing

Best life advice:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
~ Mother Theresa
“A life isn’t significant except for its impact on other lives.” ~ Jackie Robinson

What I hope to do with this foundation:

I want to give back to teachers because they are influencing the future. Our kids need opportunities to succeed and feel capable . . . hopefully we will be able to give them both.
