About me:
I am a fourth-generation East Sider and still live in the Oakdale area. I work at Tiffin University and have been teaching for 22 years. I’m also a third-generation graduate of Waite.
I like to travel when I can and have been all over this country, stopping at MLB parks along the way, as my dad is an avid baseball fan. In 2021, my niece and I will be heading to Europe with her high school, so I guess it’s time to start practicing my French. I am also an animal lover with the cats to prove it.
What I hope to do with this foundation:
I want to be able to give back to the schools that helped shape me. I had a great experience as a TPS student, and current students should have the same opportunities that were presented to me.
Who influenced me the most in school:
This is a tie between Ms. Monto and Mr. Genzman.
Ms. Monto was my fifth grade teacher. She had a book section in her classroom and made her students read and log it in a journal. She was tough, but that was because she cared and wanted her students to succeed. The reading habits she instilled in me paid off when I got to college.
Mr. Genzman, my high school American History and Contemporary History teacher, was engaging and interacted with his students. He was very knowledgeable about history, and his attention to detail made for an enjoyable class.
Favorite subjects in school:
History, French, English
Least favorite subject in school:
Anything that involved math or science. I was terrible in those two areas.
Hobbies/Activities:
Reading, playing trivia, working on small projects around the house
Best life advice:
Jim Valvano said, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.” Although this originally applied to Valvano’s battle against cancer, I have used it as personal motivation. There are times when life does not turn out the way you want it to, but life does go on, and it does get better.
