Toledo Public School teacher for 23 years, Oakdale Elementary for the past 5 years

About me:

I grew up on the East Side of Toledo in a family of five siblings, some of whom still live in the Oakdale neighborhood.

Being in the Oakdale Elementary building allows me the opportunity to work with staff, students and families on creative ways to improve our students’ educational opportunities and better the school environment while building family and community relationships. 

Who influenced me the most in school:

Mrs. Patchen at ESC.  She was always willing to help and offered patience to every student. 

Mrs. Lewis at Waite High School, who went above and beyond to guide students like myself to keep working for success, no matter the obstacles in our lives.

Favorite subjects in school:

Reading, French, and Social Studies

Least favorite subject in school:

Art, but only because I lacked confidence

Hobbies/Activities:

Playing games with my family, gardening, reading and working in the community with colleagues through ESCPF.

Best life advice:

“This too shall pass,” and “Don’t push the river.  It flows by itself.”

What I hope to do with this foundation:

To continue finding ways to increase our resources and unify our families and staff in shared compassion for our students.  If we want our teachers and kids to succeed, this organization needs to show them that they have the support of the community.  I am proud of where I come from and where I went to school.  Today’s students should be able to say the same.
